Beth lives and a male grows really close to her, causing Daryl to get extremely jealous.
Admittedly agreeing to be Beth’s plus one to her sister’s wedding was probably not the smartest decision Daryl had ever made. But boy were the consequences worth it.

Instead of facing his feelings Daryl decides to do what he does best and runs from them, even if that means ignoring Beth who returned to him after surviving a gunshot to the head.
“It is his wishful thinking that her skin felt warm to the touch under his lips, just as it is his imagination that had him hearing her voice in his ears, a wistful lilt.” Beth Greene survives, but there is a long road to walk before she can find her family again.
