Beth works as a lifeguard while she attends college in a beach community in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. One day, she meets a man on the beach who has obviously experienced some sort of trauma. Beth seeks to understand this good-looking stranger, Daryl, who has all of a sudden been dropped into her life. AU. Slow burn.

What if Daryl Dixon and Beth Greene were only a couple years apart and lived in the same town? How different would his life have been if one day, a sweet little blonde girl shared her sandwich with a lonely, hungry boy?
Beth gets taken from Daryl nearly a year earlier at the funeral home. She’s taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but from there she’s taken once more. The people that take her, they’re viscous and vile and they can no longer be considered human in a world like this. She has been gone for a year, more or less, and has had unspeakable things done to her. She soon realizes she’s on her own and takes it upon herself to escape and when she finally succeeds she sets off on her own. She’s broken and a completely different form of herself.
With her family living at Alexandria what will happen when their lives intertwine with hers again. Does she still love them? Will she stay? Is she too broken to even heal and come back to herself? Or will new romances brew as the new Beth continues to surprise herself and others.
It’s elation, pure and simple, and it surges something inside of her to push forward and take. She moves her hand away from where she’s tucked the blanket over his shoulder, to the crook where his neck meets his shoulder, and rests her palm there – nails scratching just so at his skin. Admittedly agreeing to be Beth’s plus one to her sister’s wedding was probably not the smartest decision Daryl had ever made. But boy were the consequences worth it.

No one ever said losing people was easy, but goodbyes still hurt. Sometimes, just knowing that you’re not alone is everything. Beth goes back to her beginnings with Daryl as a strong shoulder to lean on.
Merle was on trial but this time it was for something bigger than he’d ever done before.
They all have their secrets. Some are just better at hiding them than others.
