Instead of facing his feelings Daryl decides to do what he does best and runs from them, even if that means ignoring Beth who returned to him after surviving a gunshot to the head.

Over time the hope she’d carried deep in her bones eventually dwindled until she could hardly feel it anymore.
Beth was dead. It had all been a dream. Daryl Dixon was done.
This story follows the events of The Walking Dead Season 5 Midseason finale, and is an alternate tragic ending to the Beth and Daryl fan fiction “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”.

Months have passed and Daryl is still grieving Beth’s loss. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t forget her and the regret of everything that was left unsaid between the two of them. Set in the second half of season 6, inspired by Daryl begging Rick not to play that CD in episode 6×10. Depressing, but will have a happy ending, because Daryl and Beth deserve it.
With nothing but a hole in her head and a shredded nightmare of a life left to her, Beth goes back to the beginning, following ghosts. Meanwhile, Daryl keeps a fragile hold on reasons to live, and returns to what he left behind, following the light.
